Community guidelines
How members treat each other in Raabta: in the app, in clubs and at events.
Last updated
In short: be yourself, be kind, keep what is shared here private, and tell us when something is not right.
Be who you say you are
Every member is verified, and that only means something if profiles stay honest. People should always know who they are talking to.
Please do
Use your real name and a recent photo of yourself. Keep your work, city and interests up to date. Tell us if your account has been used by someone else.
Please don’t
Pretend to be someone else, or overstate what you do. Share your account or let anyone else use it. Pass on a referral code to someone you would not vouch for.
Treat every member with respect
Members come from different backgrounds, schools of thought and walks of life. Good adab is what keeps the room worth being in.
Please do
Assume good intentions and disagree kindly. Welcome new members and make introductions. Give feedback in private before raising it in public.
Please don’t
Harass, insult, threaten or demean anyone. Attack people for their background, ethnicity, sect, gender or level of practice. Gossip about members or share screenshots of disagreements.
Here for friendship, community and business
Raabta is not a dating app. Introductions are about shared interests, industry and goals.
Please do
Reach out about what you have in common. Keep conversations appropriate for a professional and community setting.
Please don’t
Use the club to look for romantic or sexual contact. Comment on a member’s appearance or send unwanted personal messages.
What is shared here stays here
Members speak more openly when they know it will not travel. Privacy is the reason the club works.
Please do
Ask before sharing a member’s story, photo or contact details outside the club. Respect members who keep their photos and videos hidden.
Please don’t
Screenshot, record or photograph the app or other members’ content. Post about members or what was said at events on public social media without consent. Add members to outside groups or mailing lists without asking them.
Message with care
Members choose who may message them, and first messages from people they have not met can wait in a requests folder.
Please do
Introduce yourself and say why you are getting in touch. Accept a “no”, or no reply, the first time.
Please don’t
Try to get around a member’s message settings, including sisters-only settings. Send the same message to many members, or keep messaging someone who has not answered. Push a member to move the conversation to another app or share their phone number.
Do business honestly
Supporting Muslim-owned businesses is part of what the club is for. That trust is easy to lose.
Please do
Keep your directory listing accurate, and only list a business that is yours. Be clear about prices, terms and what you can deliver. Say so when you have a commercial interest in something you recommend.
Please don’t
Send sales pitches to members who did not ask for them. Promote get-rich-quick schemes, or pressure anyone to buy or invest. Leave reviews for your own business, or unfair ones for a competitor.
Clubs and events
Clubs are run by members, and events are where online introductions become real ones. Both depend on people showing up well.
Please do
Only sign up for what you plan to attend, and cancel early if you cannot make it. Organizers: keep your club welcoming and its description honest. Follow the venue’s rules and look out for one another.
Please don’t
Bring guests who have not been approved for a members-only event. Present your own gathering as an official Raabta event. Take photos or video of other members at events without asking.
Keep the club safe
Spam, scams and harassment are caught early when members speak up. Reports from sisters go to the front of the queue.
Please do
Report anything that worries you, in two taps, from anywhere in the app. Block a member if you need to. They are not told.
Please don’t
Post anything unlawful, hateful, violent or sexually explicit. Ask members for money, passwords or personal documents. Make false reports, or retaliate against someone who reported you.
